This is known as SMS chat or SMS interactivity. Companies can use this feature to answer customer questions quickly, <a href=\"https:\/\/thegood.com\/insights\/shopping-cart-abandonment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">help recover abandoned cart sales,<\/a> deliver order updates, and more.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Historically, there have been two types of SMS text messages companies send their audience: promotional and transactional messages. Well, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/americans-check-their-phones-96-times-a-day-300962643.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to global tech care company Asurion,<\/a> the average American checks their phone 96 times a day, or once every 10 minutes. And what\u2019s more, SMS messages have an <a href=\"https:\/\/99firms.com\/blog\/sms-marketing-stats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">average open rate of 98%,<\/a> while email significantly underperforms, coming in at a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.campaignmonitor.com\/resources\/knowledge-base\/what-are-good-email-metrics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">20% average open rate. <\/a>\u00a0This makes SMS marketing one of the most effective methods for reaching prospects.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are several benefits of SMS marketing:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>It&#8217;s immediate:<\/strong> Compared to other types of marketing like email, which has more of an \u201cI\u2019ll check it later\u201d mentality, SMS is fast and responsive. You can reach your audience within seconds of sending a text.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>It\u2019s intimate:<\/strong> Your messages appear right in the hands of the consumer, always at arm\u2019s reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>It&#8217;s easy to track:<\/strong> With SMS, you can track opens, clicks, and other metrics to help you improve your marketing campaigns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it doesn\u2019t stop there. There&#8217;s a growing consumer desire for mobile communications. In 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.attentivemobile.com\/blog\/consumer-trends-report#:~:text=66.5%25%20of%20consumers%20signed%20up%20to%20receive%20texts%20from%20more%20brands%20than%20they%20did%20the%20year%20before.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">66.5% of consumers<\/a> opted to receive texts from more brands than they did the previous year.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bankmycell.com\/blog\/how-many-phones-are-in-the-world#:~:text=According%20to%20Statista%2C%20the%20current%20number%20of%20smartphone%20users%20in%20the%20world%20today%20is%206.648%20billion%2C%20and%20this%20means%2083.72%25%20of%20the%20world%E2%80%99s%20population%20owns%20a%20smartphone.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">83.72% of the world\u2019s population<\/a> owning a smartphone, that\u2019s an enormous market just waiting for your SMS marketing messages.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-here-s-how-sms-marketing-works\">Here\u2019s how SMS marketing works<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>By sending texts directly to customers\u2019 mobile devices, businesses can provide them with coupons, links, reminders, and updates in seconds. And because nearly everyone has a cell phone these days, the potential reach is massive. But how does SMS marketing work?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, companies must find an SMS marketing software enabling them to send mass texts or to individuals. After acquiring an SMS marketing platform, companies collect phone numbers of current and potential customers who express consent to marketing messages. Once customers consent, companies can freely send SMS messages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SMS marketing messages are sent from \u201cshortcodes\u201d consisting of 5-6 digits. Maybe more marketing spend, more team members, a larger office, or offering a new product feature? Those are all great to have when trying to scale your business. However, there\u2019s much more that goes into scaling your ecommerce company, and one of those is SMS marketing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While SMS marketing is best used in conjunction with other marketing strategies, there are actionable strategies you can use now to bolster your SMS marketing campaigns.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-multimedia-is-your-friend\">Multimedia is your friend<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Some companies may view GIFs, memes, or other images as immature, but consumers today desire an engaging visual experience, complete with personalized messaging and graphics. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.attentivemobile.com\/blog\/consumer-trends-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">51.1% of consumers<\/a> say they\u2019re more likely to purchase if they receive a text containing a GIF, image, or video.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, if images or GIFs aren\u2019t on-brand for your company, it\u2019s no problem. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.attentivemobile.com\/blog\/consumer-trends-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">33% of shoppers<\/a> say they don\u2019t have a preference, just as long as the message contains pertinent information.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-it-s-all-in-the-timing\">It\u2019s all in the timing&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s not all about <em>how <\/em>you present the information but <em>how often <\/em>you present it. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.attentivemobile.com\/blog\/consumer-trends-report#:~:text=58%25%20want%20to%20hear%20from%20brands%20multiple%20times%20per%20week.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">58% of consumers<\/a> want to hear from their favorite brands multiple times (1-3 times) per week.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although consumers mostly prefer 4-6 text messages per month, there\u2019s no rigidity. Therefore, companies should establish the right rhythm to compel engagements, different for every company and industry.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Different cadences may be applied to segmented audiences, adjusting to their personal preferences. For example, some companies offer customers the option to choose their preferred messaging frequency. You can use SMS marketing to deliver these updates directly to your clients&#8217; phones.
